I don’t know about you, but after a day on the lake I am as hungry as a grizzly bear! The Tims Ford Lake area offers several options to fill that empty belly, and we would like to share some of the local favorites with you. After all, we don’t want anyone getting HANGRY! LOL
Absolutely one of our favorites! Open 6am-2pm, Tues-Sun. Obviously, it’s all about the breakfast. The pancakes are out of this world, so don’t miss those, but honestly everything on the menu is delicious. The atmosphere is fun and the service is friendly as well. There are a few sandwiches and such on the menu for lunch also. A true gem located in Winchester.
Located in Tullahoma, this vintage soda shop and luncheon is a huge hit with the locals. They recently started serving breakfast, and boy is it tasty. We like the T-Town Special. They have cold and hot sandwiches (try Gigi’s BLT or Trent’s Turkey Bacon Ranch) as well as several soup options. Of course the best thing is the sweets! Try a float or a malt and by all means taste the Sundrop Cake- YUM!
Located just outside the town square in Winchester, this 50’s style diner is always a crowd pleaser. It is like stepping back in time to enjoy handcrafted hamburgers, broasted chicken, or a good ole meat and 3. There’s even fried catfish and shrimp on Friday nights. Don’t forget to save room for a scoop of ice cream as well!
- LuLu’s Cafe
Another family owned restaurant, LuLu’s is always busy. Located in Estill Springs, LuLu’s serves breakfast all day and has great home cooking. Meat and 3 options, daily specials, and be sure to try a piece of cake- So Good!
- Las Margaritas (Winchester)
- Casa Mexico (Tullahoma)
- La Fiesta (Cowan)
- Taqueria Los Olivos-Authentic Mexican (Winchester)
C’mon- we couldn’t skip the Mexican restaurants. You know the deal here, so we won’t give you a long write up, just go get some chips and salsa, a few margaritas, and relax!
- Gondola Pizza and Steakhouse Restaurant
Located in Tullahoma since 1973, this family owned gem is one of our frequent stops. Using family recipes for their made from scratch food, the options are plenty. Pizzas are hand tossed and hand rolled, and steaks are cut in house. The pasta = delicious. We have tried several items and still haven’t found anything that we do not like. And check out those huge cakes. We’re talking MASSIVE! A local favorite we think you will love.
Located in Tullahoma and only a short drive away from the world famous Jack Daniel’s Distillery, as well as the George Dickel Distillery, Whiskey Trail is a local favorite with some fantastic BBQ and live music on the weekends.
Family owned since 1980, this little BBQ joint in Tullahoma is delicious. Their Mississippi, wet pork BBQ is slow smoked over sweet hickory wood for a tast that is out of this world!
- Rafaels Pizzeria and Restaurant
With locations in Winchester and Tullahoma, Rafael’s is one of our personal favorites. It’s more of a fast food style, but the food is super and fairly priced. You’ll find pizza, pitas, pasta, wings and more on the menu.
If you like Thai food, this is your place! Thai culinary traditions mixed with a modern interpretation make this a popular place with the locals in Tullahoma.
- Piezan Pizzeria Italiano
Located on the square in Winchester, if you are looking for delicious pizza in a great atmosphere, stop in and indulge yourself. They also have some great pasta dishes. Seating is limited, so if it is prime time, you may want to call ahead and make a reservation.
Located in downtown Winchester, Jefferson’s has been a welcome addition to our area. Their specialty is wings, with over 20 different sauces to choose from period. They also have burgers, sandwiches, salads, and more. And there are big screen tv’s everywhere, so you don’t have to worry about missing the big game!
- Lupita’s Tacos
Also on the square in Winchester, Lupita’s has traditional Latin cuisine that is absolutely amazing. Make sure you try the street corn. FYI- If you meet the owners you will love them!
Located in Tullahoma, Emil’s offers a fine dining experience with traditional southern cuisine as well as a selection of craft cocktails. Don’t miss the Chicken Daniel, Buttermilk Fried Tilapia, or the Crab Cake! Fresh ingredients and a master chef = Delicious!
This lively place has such a fun atmosphere! You can’t eat here and not smile. Located in Monteagle, the Mountain Goat is a popular place for us locals. Yes, they do have a market full of cute things. But they also have a selection of sandwiches, salads, pizza and more. Menu items such as the Grilled Gooey, The Treehugger, The Flying Pig, and Fancy Pants make this eclectic place just that much more fun. And what about those Oreo Balls! MMMM….this is simply a wonderful place!
If you really want to impress your significant other, take a short drive over to Monteagle to visit High Point. A 1929 Historic Mansion, once used by Al Capone, the famous mobster, is now a beautiful restaurant. Original hardwood floors and authentic light fixtures are just some of the charm here. The food and service are amazing. If you visit during nice weather, the outdoor patio area is romantic and soothing. Let’s just put it this way- we could write an entire blog on this place alone. If we were giving ratings, then A+ it is!
- Filo’s Tavern
This amazing addition to the Winchester square is a genuine treat. Offering modern American food with the finest locally sourced ingredients, Filo’s is a “must do” for locals and visitors alike. The atmosphere is beautiful and relaxing, and rivals anything you would find in the big city. With dishes like iron Skillet Meatballs, “Gangster” B.L.T. Sandwich, Lynchburg Whiskey Shrimp, and Mongolian Ribeye, as well as many others, you can’t go wrong. And don’t miss the Tennessee Whiskey Baked Beans!
If you are looking for BBQ in Lynchburg, the Barrel House is the place. Ribs, pulled pork, and the burgers are all amazing at this homey little smokehouse.
This down home southern cooking icon in Lynchburg is a must visit! Located in an antebellum-style mansion, Miss Mary Bobo’s is always a fabulous experience.
Just in case you need a little coffee break, both of these places are phenomenal. Both have some light sandwiches and so forth as well.
So there you have it. Did we miss any places? Probably. But you shouldn’t go hungry at least! Stay safe, and enjoy the lake life friends, we’ll see ya on the water.
