Over 25 years ago, my dad and I visited Tims Ford Lake for the first time. I still remember our first glance at the water as we crossed a bridge over the lake en route to our rented cabin. It was so beautiful. It looked like a postcard. It seemed PERFECT…and it was. We were used to boating and fishing in lakes with water that was much dingier. The clean and clear waters of Tims Ford shimmered and danced in the sunlight, almost as if it was saying “Welcome, I’m so happy to see you”! It was definitely love at first sight.
We cruised around, admiring the lakefront homes, talking about how amazing it would be to live
in one…dreaming.
Over the years we made a few trips back, although not as many as we would have liked. Tims Ford was about two hours away from home, so it was a little far for us to go every weekend.
Even as a young man, I had a desire in my heart to move to the lake. It was one of those things I hoped for, like winning the lottery or something, but I doubted it would ever come to pass.
The years passed and I met my beautiful wife Laci. I recall bringing her to Tims Ford for the first time. We got all the way there, only to discover the battery on the boat was dead! So we just purchased some worms and fished from the dock. We weren’t going to let a little misfortune ruin our fun at the lake!
We have also shared some great memories with Laci’s family on the lake. Often times we would rent a cabin at Tims Ford Marina when they would come to visit from Iowa. I could probably write a book on the events from those trips! There was just something special about being at the lake. We laughed more. We felt free from the stress of the world. I’ll never forget exactly where my father-in-law caught his first good bass on Tims Ford. Or exactly where we were on the lake when my mother-in-law said, “I think we should move, just because we caught fish here yesterday doesn’t mean we will catch them here today”. Mind you, she knows little about fishing! She was lucky I didn’t throw her in and let her swim back to the cabin! Lol! I can see a future blog post just recalling stories from those trips alone.
Fast forward a few more years. Laci and I had rented a cabin for a weekend get away. The weather was supposed to be cool and windy on our first day there, so Laci suggested we could go look at a few houses. Just for fun! We seriously had no intentions of moving. Just dreaming…
…until we walked into a place that we just fell in love with! One week later we were under 
contract. The madness of getting our old house ready to sell, packing up and moving to a new town, and realizing a dream was literally coming true was beyond exhilarating. Was this really happening? Some even accused us of having a mid-life crisis(even though we weren’t quite old enough for that)!
Now Tims Ford Lake is home. We keep making memories. Laci’s family still comes to visit. The pontoon rides still soothe our souls. The fishing tales continue to grow. Our love for the lake only gets stronger.
I love Tims Ford Lake. I love calling it my home. I love recalling all the memories. And I can’t wait to make more!
